Running on the pattern of The Palace On Wheels, the Deccan Odyssey crisscrossing the entire length and breadth of Maharashtra and Goa (over 2400 km/1500 miles) tries to recreate the Bygone Era of Peshwas. Offering the traditional hospitality that India is famous for, the luxury train is a joint venture between the Union Ministry of Railways & State Govt. of Maharashtra with the on-board arrangements being run by the Taj Group of Hotels.

The A/C Maharaja train has 21 coaches out of which 11 are passenger cars with 4 coups each. There are 2 Presidential Suite Cars with 2 coupes each car. The train also has a conference car, which can be redesigned as dance floor in the night as well as two restaurant cars. There is also a lounge/bar car and one Spa Car. Apart from the above there are generator cars with luggage store and staff car or spare car.
